Dewar’s Candy Shop

Posted by The Scoop On August - 6 - 2008

Don’t ask me why it’s taken me so long to stop by Dewar’s Candy Shop but today with encouragement from friends I decided to check out one of Bakersfield’s Sweetest Spots. The outside of Dewar’s took me back to this ice cream shop in New York where I used to buy ice cream cakes. The inside was picture perfect, with white and black tile, and pink with green polka dot stools. It seemed like a confection store from a movie. Every detail was amazingly sweet. I love malts, so that’s what I had. And I couldn’t leave without trying their legendary chews. I sampled all the flavors, and was particularly fond of the peppermint and the peanut butter. Dewar’s Candy Shop is located at 1120 Eye St.

Miyoshi

Posted by The Scoop On August - 5 - 2008

Miyoshi Sushi Bar is a small sushi spot that tries to create a true Japanese experience.  The female staff shuffle around in a cute pink and black Kimono and the Sushi chefs stand tentative while waiting on the next order.   I go to Miyoshi because they have the best Shrimp Fried Rice. I like their shrimp fried rice because the rice is sticky and the sesame seeds they sprinkle on top give it a distinct flavor.  Miyoshi is located at 8200 Stockdale Hwy.

24th Street Café

Posted by The Scoop On August - 3 - 2008

This is a cute Café!  From the sidewalk umbrella waiting area to the inside diner style counter seating, I love this place. The Café has a classic style atmosphere.   I knew this Café was special because of the number of people I often see lined up on the sidewalk on the weekends. Eager to try it out, but not wanting to wait on the Saturday waiting list, I went solo and was able to be seated immediately.  The waitress was very friendly and my pancakes were great.  This seems like a great place to spend your Saturday mornings, chatting with friends, eating great food, and talking to locals.  If you haven’t had the 24th St. Café experience, I advise you to check it out.  24th St. Café is located at 1415 24th Street.
