Growing up in a small East Texas town, I always wanted to Shine! I competed in local pageants and finally made my way to Miss Texas USA. I didn’t place but it was an amazing experience. I went on to attend the Dan Rather School of Communication, at Sam Houston State University, majoring in Speech Communication, and Radio/Television. There I produced a local TV show on our Campus Network (KSAM), and worked diligently on perfecting my on-camera skills. I was having so much fun learning about Broadcast Journalism and the Media that I continued my studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, receiving a Master’s Degree in Communication and Business.
Shortly after Graduate school, I packed 2 suitcases and headed to the BIG APPLE! For the first few weeks I found myself in the middle of Times Square, like a deer blinded by headlights. While in NYC I studied acting, the Meisner Technique, and landed Commercials with: Home Depot, Monroe College, Raymore & Flannigan, and Jazz Moods; and starred Off- Broadway in “Colored Girls”, “Happy Hour”, and “Married but still Looking.” A also played a supporting role in a short “Shattered”; that is currently running at the New York International Film Festival.
Before moving to Bakersfield I had no idea how or where I would be able to continue my on camera fix, or my creative outlet. Moving to Bakersfield from NYC was devastating in the beginning because I thought,”what does this town have to offer?” The more I researched, got involved, and began hanging out I found many cool places, and things to do here. My experience from locals has been, there’s not much to do but to the contrary I’ve found so many interesting things that I can’t wait to show you.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy in Bakersfield! Producing The Scoop Bakersfield has allowed me the joy of learning about Bakersfield’s rich history, and meeting amazing people. I hope this site and show will encourage you to get out and experience something new. Or make you second guess getting in your car, spending $$$$$ on gas, to head down South.
